MTCC: Fuvahmulah City road development will finish by January

The Managing Director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) stated that the internal road development project of Fuvahmulah City will be completed by January 2023.

Speaking to Sun, Azim said that the roads developed will be high-class and the up to the latest modern technology standards.

“The designed for the roads is very well done.”

This project was handed over to MTCC by the Ministry of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on July 4, 2019.

Though physical work commenced soon after, it was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, said Azim.   

It will see the development of 31 roads, which will have an overall length of 15,932 meters.

The project includes:

  • Development of sub-base preparation-excavation & compaction of sqm 122,659.00
  • Base preparation & Asphalt Wearing Course
  • Road Markings
  • Developing footpath preparation & road crossing
  • Setting up road signage & street lights
  • Establishing storm water drainage works 

MTCC had revealed that the project is worth a total of MVR 279.4 million.

Deputy Mayor of Fuvahmulah Mohamed Fikury said that the project was the end of a long wait for the people.

He also expressed his belief that MTCC was the most capable for the project.

“Most of the development projects across Maldives are undertaken by MTCC right now. They are working on the projects essential to people in a very efficient manner.”

The company has previously conducted road development projects in Fuvahmuaah.
