Fandiyaaru Magu has been transformed to a one-way road as part of the preparations to commence minibus service in Male’ City.
Fandiyaaru Magu was switched to a one-way road on Monday. With the new change, vehicles will only be permitted to drive on the road from the direction of west to east.
Male’ City Council’s Manchangoalhi constituency member Ahmed Zameer told Sun that the President’s Office had informed the Council to vacate parked motorcycles from Maajeedhee Magy before the commencement of minibus service.
“Whilst the government is set to commence the minibus program before 20th of this month – some roads along with Majeedhee magu needs to fully vacated. There are roads which needs to be partially vacated as well. The President’s Office has instructed to switch all the parking spots in Majeedhee Magu to Fandiyaaru Magu,” he detailed.
Minibus service commencing under Raajje Transport Link (RTL) of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) will be operational on the routes Majeedhee Magu, Ameenee Magu, Fareedhee magu and Orchid Magu.
The shipment of 36 mini buses required to commence mini bus service in the Maldives arrived in the country in mid-July. This includes 12 buses for Male’ City and 24 buses for atolls.
The decision to remove the parking spots in major roads of Male’ City to accommodate bus stops under the service has been the subject of criticism by many as alternative parking spaces had not been allocated.
