Students mark end of academic year, greet long holiday

Schools in Maldives closed on Thursday with the end of the academic year, leaving students to enjoy a long holiday.

Schools across the country presented students with their report cards, and held different activities to celebrate the beginning of the holidays.

The school holidays this year coincides with the Eid al-Adha holidays and the Independence Day holidays. Scores of families are expected to travel both to other islands and overseas.

The academic new year 2022-2023 will begin on August 7.

The beginning of the academic year was changed to mid-year last year.
