EC cancels permit issued to form ‘Aamu Rayyithunge Party’

Elections Commission (EC), on Wednesday, has cancelled the permit issued by the authority to form a political party under the name ‘Aamu Rayyithunge Party’.

EC’s Vice President Ismail Habeeb said that the permit was to form the party was cancelled as no membership application forms were submitted within stipulated timeframe after the permit was issued.

The permit to form ‘Aamu Rayyithunge Party’ was given in February 2020 – to Ahmed Saeed, Kanadhooge, S. Hithadhoo.

A political party will only be registered once they acquire the signatures of 3,000 members after EC issues permit to form the party.

At present, there are 11 registered political parties in the Maldives.
