Police have arrested four additional suspects in connection to the fatal stabbing in Feydhoo district of Addu City earlier this month.

Mohamed Zayan Moosa, 21, Solid, S. Feydhoo, was stabbed multiple times in a gang fight which broke out in Feydhoo district at approximately 03:00 am on June 1.

He died a couple of hours after he was taken to the Addu Equatorial Hospital.

Police said they made four additional arrests in connection to the case on Saturday; two 18-year-olds, a 22-year-old, and a 24-year-old.

When presented before the court for their remand hearing, the court remanded one of the 18-year-olds and the 22-year-old to 15 days in police custody. The 24-year-old was remanded in jail pending the outcome of the trial, and the other 18-year-old was released.

Police had previously arrested two suspects in connection to the case; a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old.

According to the hospital, Zayan sustained multiple stab wounds, including to his hands and back.

Addu City Council has expressed concern over the murder, and has called on the police to establish safety and security in the city.

The case comes after the council expressed concern over lack of police resources to properly maintain security in Addu in September last year, after a serious of gang-related violence shook the city.

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said last year that there were 12 active gangs in Addu – the second most populous city in Maldives.
