Former High Court Judge Sameer appointed Deputy Prosecutor General

Former High Court Judge Ali Sameer has been appointed as Deputy Prosecutor General. 

Sameer who had worked as a judge at the High Court since 2011, resigned from the court on April 17. The reason for his resignation is unclear. 

Sameer obtained his Bachelor’s in Sharia and Law from the Al-Azhar University of Egypt, and Masters in Comparative Law from the International Islamic University of Malaysia. 

He has over 15 years of experience as a judge. 

Prior to his appointment to the High Court in 2011, he had worked as a judge at the Civil Court, most recently as the court’s chief judge. 

With the recent appointment, the Prosecutor General’s Office has two deputy prosecutor generals; Sameer and Mahmood Saleem.
