JSC forwards dismissal of two High Court judges to Parliament

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has forwarded the dismissal of two High Court judges, Judge Abdulla Hameed and Judge Abdual Rauf Ibrahim, to the Parliament.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has forwarded the dismissal of two High Court judges, Judge Abdulla Hameed and Judge Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, to the Parliament.

According to JSC, the dismissal was in connection to the judges directly accepting flats granted as an allowance from the government, without any involvement of the Parliament.

The commission noted that this was a violation of the constitution, and against the code of conduct for judges.

The third judge who is involved in the case apart from the two names forward to the Parliament, Judge Ali Sameer has recently put forth his resignation.

JSC commenced its investigation into this case in January 2022.

Judge Rauf attained his law degree from Malaysia’s International Islamic University and was even a member of the JSC previously.

Meanwhile, Judge Hameed has a Shariah and Law degree from Al Azhar University and has also filled the role of a member at JSC.

Should the Parliament make the decision to dismiss these two judges, only 8 judges will be left at the High Court, including Chief Justice.
