MVR 800,000 collected from Male’ as zakat, near halfway into Ramadan

Islamic Ministry states it has received MVR 800,000 from Male’ City as zakat, 11 days into the month of Ramadan.

Islamic Ministry said that total 19,523 people have paid their zakat. 4,956 made their payments in-person, while 14,567 made their payments online.

The ministry received total MVR 878,646 as zakat in the first 11 days of Ramadan this year – slightly lower than the MVR 899,031 during the same period last year.

The collection of zakat will be open until April 29 (Ramadan 28).

FITR AL-ZAKAT:

  • Regular rice: MVR 12
  • Thailand white rice: MVR 77
  • Red rice: MVR 72
  • Basmati rice (regular): MVR 77
  • Basmati rice (high quality): MVR 90
  • Basmati rice (best quality): MVR 132
  • Regular flour: MVR 12
  • Wholemeal wheat flour: MVR 70

Zakat can be submitted online via several options; Dhiraagu’s DhiraaguPay, Ooredoo m-Faisaa, Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB)’s FaisaMobile, Bank of Maldives (BML)’s portal, FahiPay, and Finance Ministrt’s Bandeyri portal.

Islamic Ministry states zakat will be accepted from Bandeyri portal until the last day of Ramadan.

The Islamic Ministry will be open for people who wish to submit their zakat in-person from 10:00 am to 01:00 pm on workdays.

Special arrangements have been made at the Islamic Ministry’s hall to collect zakat from the elderly and people unfamiliar with online payment transactions.

Islamic Ministry is set to begin distributing zakat on the 19th of Ramadan. It will be distributed to people on the register of the poor. There are currently 8,984 people registered on the list.
