Four companies bid to develop Haminaadhoo Airport

Economic Ministry states that four companies have submitted bids for the project to develop the Hanimaadhoo International Airport. 

The deadline for submission of bids for the project expired on Thursday. While the Economic Ministry confirmed four companies had submitted bids for the project, it did not disclose details regarding the companies. 

The project will see the construction of a 2.46-kilometer runway and a terminal able to accommodate 1.3 million passengers per annum. 

The airport will also receive additional facilities needed for international operations. 

The airport is being developed to accommodate Airbus A320s and Boing 737s. 

Economic Ministry states that once the project is complete, the airport will have the capacity to operate direct flights to the Middle East, South Asia, South East Asia, and Africa. 

The project is part of the current administration’s policy to develop a trade hub in northern Maldives. The project is hoped to expand resorts and guesthouses in the north.
