Male' City Council has announced their decison to commence work on the development of markets in every district of Male' City which will be specialized to female enterprenaurs.
Speaking at a press conference held by the City Council, Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that the markets were developed to facilitate a platform for women working from home to sell and market their products. He added that developing markets specialized for female enterprenaurs in Male' City is for the purpose of making local women self-sufficient.
Noting that efforts are underway to complete the markets by Ramadan, Mayor Muizzu said that the all market-related work including the oversight of its operations will be carried out by local women. On this note, he said that a group of women who will undertake the task will be formed before the markets are inaugurated.
"The stalls in the markets will be manned by women. Foreigners cannot stay. The whole operation - from home to market and market to home - this process at all times will comprise of only women," he had said.
"We will form a body to represent the women of the districts. The body will be cooperative," he added.
Mayor Muizzu said that products made at home by women can be sold through the cooperative at the markets.
