COVID-19: 986 new cases; 16,227 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday, announced 986 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 156,903.     

According to HPA, the 986 new cases include; 206 cases from the greater Male’ region, 596 cases from residential islands outside Male’ and 109 cases from operational resorts.

Meanwhile, 967 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 140,376.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 16,277 active cases.      

There are 49 patients in hospitals.      

3,936 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,274 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 16 percent.

Maldives has recorded 287 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 397,920 people have received their first dose and 370,425 people have been fully vaccinated, and 104,134 have received their booster dose.
