Male’ City Council decides to take Gulhifalhu issue to court

Male’ City Council on Wednesday made the decision to take the issue of Gulhifalhu to court.

The council voted to go to court in order to bring Gulhifalhu under their jurisdiction and to provide land to the citizens of Male’ from there.

During the council meeting held today, Councilor for Hulhumale Constituency Ibrahim Shujau presented the issue.

He noted that the island should be designated to provide housing for citizens of Male’, and further suggested that the issue should be taken to court.

During the meeting, a vote was taken where it was passed to take this issue to court with all 12 members voting in favour.

Soon after his election as Mayor of Male’ City Dr Mohamed Muizzu said that he would work alongside the government to make Gulhufalhu the solution to the housing crisis faced by the populous capital.

Dr Muizzu had previously stated that the City Councils plan is to reclaim an area of about 200 hectares and to issue 40,000 plots of land. He also noted that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had spoken about revising the Gulhifalhu plan to be able to provide housing solutions to 30,000 citizens.

 

The current administration has started work on developing a large scalar port in Gulhifalhu.
