Bangladesh PM scheduled to visit Maldives; to be invited to deliver address at Parliament

An extraordinary sitting of the Parliament has been called to vote on extending an invitation to Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to deliver an address at the Parliament during her upcoming visit to the Maldives.

The only item on the agenda for the extraordinary sitting scheduled for 11:00am on Monday is the vote on extending an invitation to Prime Minister Hasina to visit the Parliament and deliver an address.

According to Bangladesh’s media ‘The Business Standard’, Prime Minister Hasina will be arriving on a two-day trip to Maldives on next Wednesday. The purpose of this trip is to further solidify the ties between Bangladesh and Maldives.

During a sitting held today, Bangladesh’s cabinet passed a draft agreement pertaining to Maldivian government hiring qualified Bangladeshi health professionals.

Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam that Maldives detailed that the agreement is pertaining to extending an already existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the countries.

"We have had an MoU for a long time through which different categories of healthcare workers used to go to the Maldives. Now, the country wants to extend the MoU till 2024 by turning it into an agreement," he had said.
