The two people arrested from a rally organized by opposition in the Maldivian capital on Friday have been released from police custody.

The opposition coalition, composed of PPM and PNC, had planned to hold a motorcycle rally in the capital under its ‘India Military Out’ campaign. However, the police stopped the rally.

The police had barricaded in protesters on motorcycles when they gathered in front of the PPM headquarters, leaving the opposition unable to hold the rally as planned. This led to clashes between police and protesters, in which two protesters were arrested.

A police spokesperson told Sun the two protesters were released on Friday night.

The police had stopped the rally citing conspiracy to create unrest, which they said posed a danger to the public.

The opposition denied the allegation.
