MP Saud: Government trying to commence work on Kooddoo-Villingili bridge within this year

Villingilli MP Saud Hussain has stated that the government is trying to commence work on the bridge to be built between the islands GA. Kooddoo and GA. Villingilli – by the end of this year.

Speaking to Sun regarding the matter, MP Saud noted that he has received information that currently plans were being made to carry out the bridge project under a specific timeline.

“The government is putting a lot of effort in order to carry forward with the bridge project. They are currently in search of a party who will undertake the project under a contract through financing. There is a timeline for this as well,” he had said.

MP Saud also noted that in case work on the bridge project has not been commenced by the end of this year – President Ibrahim Solih has been advised that the government hire a local company to proceed with the project.

“For example, contracting the bridge project to MTCC. They are cable of establishing the bridge connection between Villingili and Kooddoo – and ultimately successfully completing the project. Locals are capable and talented of doing this work,” he added.

Speaking further MP Saud stated that the biggest wish of all Gaafu Alifiu Atoll residents is to see Villingili getting connected to all neighboring islands to it – whereas the Kooddoo-Villingilli bridge would be paving the way to achieve this bigger picture.

“If a connection is established between all the islands in Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Villingili – this zone will become a strong economic hub. This project will be of utmost importance. This is the project that all Villingili residents are waiting for,” he had said.

He also noted that if the government fails to see to the implementation of the project – the people will respond to this through their votes for the failure to fulfill an electoral pledge.
