COVID-19: Fuvahmulah offers cash as incentive to get vaccinated

Fuvahmulah City Council has announced it will be holding a draw among the people who complete their COVID-19 vaccine dosage in the city to give away prizes, including a MVR 1,000 cash prize to three lucky winners. 

Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq told Sun the draw will be held among people who complete their vaccine dosage between August 26 and September 2. 

Three people selected in the draw will win MVR 1,000 each and five more will win free dinners at restaurants. 

Ismail said that 75 percent of the adult eligible population in Fuvahmulah have completed their vaccination, and that the incentive is being offered to push up the figure to 90 percent as soon as possible. 

Fuvahmulah was placed under monitoring following a rise in COVID-19 cases last week for the third time since the current pandemic began. 

The city currently has 172 active cases.
