The Fuvahmulah City Outreach Centre of the National Centre for the Holy Quran was officially inaugurated on Friday evening.
The centre was inaugurated during a special ceremony held in Fuvahmulah City by the State Minister for Islamic Affairs Uz. Abdulla Saudhan, and the Deputy Mayor of the Fuvahmulah City Council Mohamed Liraar. The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Fuvahmulah City Council.
Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has stated that the opening of the outreach centre will enable the expansion of Quran Hifz (memorization) programmes in the city, alongside an increase in the number of teachers. He also noted that the design for the Fuvahmulah City Islamic Centre has been completed and that the proposed concept has been shared with the City Council for its feedback.
The Minister further said, upon completion of the Islamic Centre, the National Centre for the Holy Quran will relocate to the new facility. He added that the current Quran Centre building will be converted into a Waqf property, with the revenue generated being used to support various religious activities in Fuvahmulah City.
The newly inaugurated Fuvahmulah Quran Centre features five classrooms, a prayer room, a Hifz exam room, an auditorium, a library, office facilities, and a meeting room.
Establishing branches of the National Centre for the Holy Quran across all inhabited islands of the Maldives to promote Quranic education is a key policy of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. As part of this initiative, the Ministry has already begun efforts to establish branches in 16 islands across the country.
Under the current administration, the government has significantly expanded its support for Quranic affairs. The National Quran Recitation Competition is now funded through the state budget and has been elevated into one of the country's most prestigious competitions, offering the highest-value prizes in its history.
