President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that he will not get in the way of Parliament Speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed from returning to Maldives – adding that he wished to see Nasheed’s return as well.

Speaking at a press conference held this evening, President Solih refuted the allegations that he was obstructing Nasheed’s return to Maldives – adding that he wishes to see Nasheed return back to the Maldives in good health after completing his medical treatments abroad.

He also added that it is his wish to see Nasheed return to Maldives and resume his work in serving the nation as soon as possible.

“I wish to see Nasheed return and resume his work in serving this nation. I assure that the government and MNDF will provide all the assistance needed – and also high security upon his return,” President Solih had said.

He also added that he wished to Nasheed live in the Maldives safely and peacefully after his return.

Nasheed is presently in the UK receiving medical treatment for the injuries sustained in the terror attack against him on May 6.

A homemade remote-controlled IED was strapped to a motorcycle parked nearby Nasheed’s residence and was detonated at 08:27 pm on May 6, just as Nasheed, exited his residence and went to get in his car. He was thrown to the ground and sustained multiple shrapnel wounds.
