President and First Lady returns from Sri Lanka trip

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have returned home today, concluding their unofficial private visit to Sri Lanka.

Spokesperson of the President’s Office Mabrook Azeez has confirmed to Sun that the couple arrived in Maldives earlier this morning at 08:12.

The President and First Lady departed to Sri Lanka for the Eid al-Adha holidays on May 20. Although the trip was an unofficial private visit – the President paid a courtesy call Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Thursday.

Both the leaders discussed a wide range of topics during this meeting from the unprecedented challenges posed to their respective countries and citizens by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the step being taken to ensure that their health facilities are not overburdened. Additionally, they spoke regarding the importance of vaccination for a faster and sustainable recovery.

The leaders also reaffirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthen the bilateral relations between Maldives and Sri Lanka.
