The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has announced that easements would be introduced next week to the COVID-19 measures imposed in the Maldives.

In a press conference at the HEOC today, President's Office Spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez said that the authorities were now working on introducing easements in a safe manner.

"We are now working on discussions on what is to be done next week. On what easements will be introduced to the current restrictions. We want to introduce easements as much as we can,"

"The mindset of the HPA is also to give easements as much as possible safely. So by the end of this week, god willing, it will be known what changes will be brought to the restrictive measures," said Mabrouq.

The current restrictive measures were imposed and strengthened after a rise in COVID-19 measures in the capital and all over the country since late April. This includes a curfew in the capital from 16:00 to 8:00. People are also required a police permit to go outdoors during other hours.

HPA has previously introduced significant easements that allowed people who received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to travel to islands. However, Mabrouq said that the easements this time, would not include any such measures.
