BML, HDC sign agreement for city bike rental project in Hulhumale’

Bank of Maldives (BML) and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday to implement and operate a city bike rental project in suburban Hulhumale’.

The project announcement comes on World Bicycle Day.

According to the national bank, the project will see the introduction of 300 rental bikes to Hulhumale’, which will be available to the general public for rent at a low cost.

The bikes can be ridden across Hulhumale’, and multiple docking stations will be established in strategic locations, providing parking spaces for the bikes.

BML said the bike rental system will be equipped with digital payment capabilities.

 “We look forward to implementing this project which will be the first of its kind bike rental program available for residents and visitors in Hulhumale’. In addition to being a clean and environmentally friendly means of transport, bicycles are a part of living a healthy lifestyle,” said BML’s CEO and Managing Director, Tim Sawyer.

The project is funded and co-operated by BML in partnership with HDC.
