COVID-19: Two more deaths recorded, total at 117

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced two more deaths related to COVID-19 in the Maldives, bringing the total number of fatalities related to the virus in the Maldives to 117.

HPA first announced the death of a 93-year old local female who passed away at 22:44 last night. The individual was admitted at the Hulhumale' Medical Facility when she passed away.

Announcing the second death, HPA said today "Earlier today at 04:06 a 77-year-old Maldivian male admitted at HMF has passed away,"

The two deaths recorded today has brought the total number of deaths related to the virus in the Maldives to 117. 

The Maldives has been experiencing a surge in both infection rate and fatalities in recent weeks.

This May has seen the highest number of COVID-19 fatalities in the Maldives, with over 30 deaths.

Maldives has 50,802 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 2,194 new cases recorded on Thursday. 30,403 patients have since recovered.
