COVID-19: 465 new cases, active cases close to 5,000

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced 465 additional cases of COVID-19.

The new cases mean that the total number of confirmed cases in the Maldives has now reached 29,835, since confirming the first case in March of last year.

According to HPA, the new cases include; 193 cases from the greater Male’ region, 242 cases from residential islands outside of Male’, and 25 cases from operational resorts, and five from liveaboards.

Meanwhile, 72 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 24,775 The Maldives now has 4,978 active cases. There are currently 146 patients in hospitals.

HPA added that the positive cases confirmed last night were from 3,305 samples (including repeated samples) tested for COVID-19.

73 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.

Vaccine drive

Health Protection Agency also announced that up until April 29, a total of 296,529 people in the Maldives have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 101,346 people had received both doses.

According to the HPA, 1,278 received their first dose of the vaccine on April 29; 526 from Male' City and 752 from other residential islands. 

Out of the individuals who had received both shots of the vaccine, 4,007 were vaccinated on April 29. HPA stated that 2,083 were from Male' City while 1,924 were from other residential islands in the nation.

HPA had announced earlier today that vaccine centers in the capital would be closed for tomorrow.
