Muizzu appears clear winner in race for Male’ mayor

Preliminary results of the Local Council Elections 2020 held this Saturday show opposition PPM’s candidate, former Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu set to become the next Mayor of capital Male’ City.

Preliminary results received by Sun show Muizzu won 9,305 votes, which is 61.47 percent of total votes.

His closest rival, Anas Abdul Sattar - the candidate for ruling MDP - trails behind with 5,573 votes - which makes for 36.82 percent.

Anas has conceded defeat and congratulated Muizzu on his victory.

While PPM took the key mayoral seat in the capital, MDP took mayoral seats in the remaining three cities - Kulhudhuffushi, Addu, and Fuvahmulah.
