President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu states the current administration has made significant contributions toward women’s development, noting that these efforts have been demonstrated through tangible actions.

The President conveyed International Women’s Day greetings to all Maldivian women during his remarks at a ceremony by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) to launch the Greater Addu Vision on Saturday evening.

In this regard, he noted that Women’s Development Committees have been empowered through legal reforms introduced by the government.

He stated that committee members are now receiving Ramadan allowances, and that policies have been implemented to ensure the chairperson of each committee serves as an elected, full-time executive.

The President also highlighted that the administration has doubled the budget allocation for the committees from five percent to ten percent. He added that the Ramadan allowance is provided from councils’ overall budgets rather than from the allocations specifically designated for the committees.

“It was this administration that empowered the Women's Development Committees by formalizing their legal status. Over the past period, significant efforts have been undertaken to empower [women] through various loan schemes and economic initiatives. Furthermore, several key projects scheduled for this year have been prioritized and organized, as outlined in the presidential address,” he said.

The President reiterated that advancing women’s development and mainstreaming women’s empowerment remained key priorities of the government.
