COVID-19: 66-year old male passes away, 66th virus death

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced the death of a 66-year old individual who tested positive for COVID-19.

HPA said that the death was recorded at 20:45 last night. The 66-year old was a male who was taken to the Emergency Room of the IGMH in an unresponsive state at around 20:25.

This is the 66th person to die of COVID-19 in the Maldives. The nationality of the individual is not yet confirmed. 

This is the 18th death related to COVID-19 in 2021 and the fourth death in March. 

The Maldives has so far confirmed more than 22,000 cases of the virus, with 81 cases confirmed last night alone. Active cases are currently numbered at 2,404 cases.
