Restrictions on café/restaurants extended by another week

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has extended the restrictive measures imposed on cafes, restaurants and tea shops in the greater Male’ region by another week.

HPA’s order to limit dine-in services at cafes, restaurants and tea shops in the greater Male’ region to up until 8 pm, and takeaway and delivery services to up until 10:30 pm took effect on February 27.

HPA announced on Saturday that the measures have been extended by another one-week period.

The measures affect cafes, restaurants, tea shops and other establishments that serve food in Male’, Hulhumale’, Vilimale, Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu.

Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has previously stated that obtaining services at cafes and restaurants have been identified as a high-risk activity given people spend a long amount of time in such establishments talking to each other without their masks on.

Maldives has 21,476 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 94 new cases on Saturday. 18,967 people have since recovered, while 64 have died from complications.

The country currently has 2,438 active cases. 136 of the patients are hospitalized.
