Education Ministry announced on Wednesday that classes will also resume for baby nursery and nursery students when schools reopen for the second term next week.

Schools are set to reopen for the second term of the academic year 2020-2021 on Sunday, January 10.

In a tweet on Wednesday morning, the Education Ministry announced that classes will resume for students from baby nursery to grade 12 when the schools reopen for the second term.

Education Ministry also stated that schools will be practicing the new normal guidelines compiled in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the new normal guidelines, schools must be distributed into three categories based on the student population when starting face-to-face classes. Some schools will be required to hold single sessions, some will be required to hold classes five days a week, some will be required to hold classes five days a week, some will be required to hold classes five days a week in two sessions, and some – with limited space – will be required to hold classes on alternate days. Such schools need to hold both face-to-face and virtual classes.

The new normal guidelines have been shared by the Education Ministry with the schools.

Schools in Maldives were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 and reopened partially reopened in July. Face-to-face classes in Male’ City – the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in Maldives – were held only for students from grade 7 to 12.

Schools closed for first term break on December 3.

The second term, which will begin on Sunday, will end on June 24.

The new academic year is scheduled to begin in August.
