COVID-19: Maldives total caseload exceeds 12,000

Health Protection Agency (HPA), has announced 23 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in the Maldives to 12,009.

According to HPA, the new cases include 20 locals and three foreigners.

21 of the cases were identified from the greater Male’ region, while the remaining two cases were identified from other atolls.

Meanwhile, 34 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 11,132.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 830 active cases.

There are 225 patients in isolation facilities and 52 in hospitals.

1,342 samples have been tested for the COVID-19 over the last 24 hours.

The Maldives identified its first COVID-19 case on March 7 and declared a state of public health emergency over the pandemic less than a week later on March 12. The majority of the cases identified in the nation have come from the capital Male' City.

40 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.
