The Education Ministry has said that classes for Grade 7 students in the Maldives could commence on October 25, if the circumstances remain as they are.

Classes for Grade 9 and above were commenced this month while classes were also commenced for Grade 8 as well.

Schools in the Maldives were closed in early March due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the Maldives. Schools reopened in July but were cut short after a spike in the number of cases.

Education Ministry State Minister Dr. Abdul Rasheed, in a press conference last night said that it was unlikely that classes for Grades below seven could recommence this year.

The Minister said that there was not enough time for schools to recommence due to the impending examinations. Online classes and teleclasses are currently underway for Grades below seven.
