Police rescue foreigner taken hostage

Police have rescued a foreigner who was taken hostage. 

A police media official said that the foreigner rescued was a Bangladeshi national. The individual arrested was also from Bangladesh, according to the police. 

Police did not specify where the incident took place but stated that the victim was under police protection. 

Similar incidents have taken place previously in the Maldives in relation to foreigners, usually arising from arguments or issues between expatriates.
