Indian man arrested for public intoxication released from custody

An Indian man who was arrested from Male’ City on Friday for public intoxication has been released from police custody.

The incident had taken place at Abadhah Fehi Magu, a street in the Henveiru district of Male’, at approximately 10:00 pm.

The man was visibly intoxicated. He insulted the religion of Islam, and challenged the police, claiming he had influence over the local courts.

The police said on Saturday evening that the man was arrested on Friday, but released earlier this Saturday when brought before the court for his remand hearing.

 The police said the case remains under investigation, despite his release from custody.

In addition to causing a public disturbance, the man fell on the ground, injuring his head. The police were at the scene when he entered a house in the area, before more officers were sent in, and he was eventually arrested.
