Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced the death of a female who tested positive for COVID-19.
In a tweet, HPA said that the individual was a 61-year-old Maldivian. She was admitted at the Hulhumale' Medical Facility and was receiving treatment at the Internal Care Unit.
The time of death is recorded as 1:45. This is the 22nd COVID19 death in the Maldives.
Last night, an 83-year-old man who was brought into Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) after he passed away also tested positive for the virus.
HEOC spokesperson, Dr. Nazla Rafeeq had said that health authorities were trying to confirm whether the elderly man had died from complications as a direct result of getting infected with the virus, and whether his death will be counted as a coronavirus-related death.
The Maldives has 5,494 confirmed coronavirus cases, including 128 new cases recorded on Thursday. 2,920 patients have since recovered, while 21 have died from complications.
The Maldives currently has 2,553 active cases. 1,476 patients are in isolation facilities, while 156 are hospitalized.
