COVID-19: 20 test positive, 111 recoveries

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that 20 additional cases of COVID-19 has been identified in the Maldives.

The confirmed cases tonight include:

  • 14 locals 
  • 06 Bangladeshi nationals

The total number of confirmed cases in the country currently stands at 1,962. There are 398 individuals in quarantine with a further 932 in isolation facilities. Authorities have so far collected 32,391 samples for the virus including repeat samples. Eight people have died from the virus in the Maldives.

111 recover from the virus

Statistics announced by the HPA also show that 11 individuals have recovered from the virus. This brings the total number of recoveries in the country to 1,121.

The high recovery rate also means that the Maldives currently has 825 active COVID-19 cases. 

The country identified its first COVID-19 case on March 7 and declared a state of public health emergency over the pandemic four days later on March 11. Male’ City identified its first COVID-19 case on April 15, prompting a city-wide lockdown and a nationwide ban on nonessential travel.
