Additional five recover from COVID-19

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced the recovery of five individuals who tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the Maldives to 406.

In a press conference last night, the National Emergency Operations Center had announced that 16 individuals had recovered from the virus.

The dashboard of the Health Ministry now confirms the recovery of an additional five. The recovery rate in the Maldives now stands at 24.28 percent. The Maldives has so far confirmed 1,633 cases of the virus. They include 863 Bangladeshi nationals, 555 locals as well as 165 Indian nationals. An additional 23 Nepalese nationals, nine Sri Lankan nationals as well as three Pakistani individuals have also tested positive. 

Majority of these cases were identified in the capital Male’ City. Five people have so far died from the virus in the Maldives. They include three elderly locals and two Bangladeshi nationals. 

Due to the control of the spread, the government has eased some of the restrictive measures in place across the country. However, a travel ban initiated in mid-April is still in effect and the capital is still in lockdown since April 15.
