Foreign Minister Shahid commends Chinese leadership over virus response

Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid commended the leaders of China for their extraordinary leadership skills that helped the country to overcome the worst of the Covid-19 virus outbreak.

The Minister was speaking in a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi, this evening and praised the response by the nation to the Covid-19, both in China and around the world. 

Minister Shahid commended the extraordinary leadership of President Xi Jinping, State Councilor Wang, and the Chinese government before briefing his counterpart on the measures taken by the Government of Maldives to contain the spread of the virus.

Minister also highlighted the challenges faced by the Maldivian government due to the pandemic and on the extraordinary impact that the pandemic is having on the economy of Maldives.

China is among the most important development partners of the Maldives, and Minister Shahid extended appreciation to Mr. Wang for the generous support that the Maldives has received from the Government of Yunnan Province, which provided epidemic preventive materials to the Maldives last month.
