President Solih has announced today that the government would not be appointing people to political posts for the current time being.

The announcement was made in a press conference today regarding the current situation with the Covid-19 in the Maldives.

The move was in order to alleviate the pressure faced on the government budget, said the President in the news conference today.

There were some political posts for people to be appointed but the appointments would be postponed for now due to the additional expenditure of the government budget.

The government is working on reducing MVR 1 billion from government expenditure due to the situation with the Covid-19 pandemic. The government has also decided to reduce the wages of political appointees in the government by 20 percent.
