Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abdulla Shafeeq has called for “sunset law” to alleviate the challenges faced on the country due to the Covid-19 virus situation faced.
Speaking in today’s session. MP Shafeeq stated that there were mounting concerns of the citizens regarding the situation with the virus especially by businessmen who have acquired large loans. He said that currently, loans have to be repaid despite the reduction in income.
Complaints were rising that the government was not doing anything to alleviate the pressure faced by businessmen, according to MP Shafeeq.
“Considering the current situation, a sunset law needs to be introduced. A law that will remain in place needs to be introduced for a period to address and resolve the concerns and complaints,” said MP Shafeeq.
Calls by some MPs to reduce the interest rates of loans were also issued in today’s session.
