An Italian tourist admitted to the Dharumavantha Hospital in the Maldives after testing positive for the Covid-19 disease is doing well, according to authorities.
Four people are currently undergoing treatment for the virus at Dharuvmavantha Hospital. In a news conference held last night, Dr. Moosa Hussain stated that a 70-year old Italian tourist who had tested positive for the disease was recovering and that the man’s fever had been controlled within the last two days.
Dr. Hussain added that the man no longer required an external oxygen supply and was being treated with the latest anti-viral treatments based on research across the globe, despite the lack of a vaccine or a direct medication for the virus.
The man, along with his wife, arrived in the Maldives on March 3. Both of them were moved to the center in Farukolhufushi after exhibiting symptoms on March 8 and was later moved to the DH11 specialized care unit of Dharumavantha Hospital in the capital after doctors initially recommended to keep the man under close supervision due to the old age.
Two other cases of the disease, also a couple, were tested in Dharumavantha Hospital last night. Both of their results came back as negative, but the two were still being kept at the hospital for further testing.
A total of 13 cases have been confirmed in the Maldives so far.
