Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that the air traffic movements of Velana International Airport had increased to 811 last Sunday, and broke a recently set record.

Around 252 runway movements were recorded on Velana International Airport last Sunday and the number of seaplane movements was recorded at 511. Sunday marked an extremely busy day for the biggest airport in the country during the tourist peak season and school holidays, which has already seen the airport break the air traffic movement record once before.

The record for traffic movements was last broken on December 24, 2019.

With the newly set record achievement, MACL stated its determination to ensure the safety and security of airlines operating to the airport. MACL has previously requested passengers to attend to the airport three hours before departure to ensure a smooth travel process due to the busy and congested schedule of the airport.
