34th INFOFISH Governing Council Meeting begins in Maldives

The 34th session of the INFOFISH Governing Council has begun in Maldives.

The session was inaugurated at the Champa Central Hotel in Male’ this Monday, and will continue until Thursday, December 19.

INFOFISH is a regional intergovernmental organization for marketing information and technical advisory services for fisheries products in the Asian and Pacific region. It was originally launched in 1981 as a project of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. It has 13 member nations; Maldives, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Fiji, India, Iran. Malaysia, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The 34th session of the INFOFISH Governing Council is being chaired over by Maldives. Representatives from seven member nations are partaking in the session, including the Fijian Fisheries Minister Semi Koroilavesau who arrived in Maldives last Sunday.

The session is also being attended by two international observers.
