An MDP social media activist who received a death threat has filed a case with the Police.

The activist who goes by the name “Nauty Matox” on twitter received death threats from two people late on Friday night.

Nauty wrote on twitter that two people on a motorcycle came up to him while he was parking his motorcycle near Euro Store on Majeedhee Magu in Henveiru. The two men threatened to kill him “even if he was in Addu” if he kept on tweeting things about the religion.

MDP has condemned the threats in harsh words while the case has now been filed with the Police.

“Every time there is a difference of opinion, resorting to violence and cruelty is not acceptable in a developed country of the 21st century. It is how issues of arguments and differences of opinion were resolved in the dark ages.” read a statement by MDP.

MDP also stated that this was a serious criminal offense that called for action and that such actions of anger had resulted in the loss of life in the country lately. The party called on the authorities to find and punish those responsible for the act.
