Team of US journalists in Maldives in promo event

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) has announced a team US journalists is in Maldives at its invitation to increase media exposure for Maldives as a tourist destination in the US.

This is the fifth group to visit Maldives as part of MMPRC’s FAM trip series for 2019.

The team of journalists, which comprises of freelance writers for a variety of publications such as Travel + Leisure, Jetsetter.com, Trip Savvy, National Geographic Travel, USA Today and New York magazine, arrived in Maldives last Tuesday.

The team will stay in Heritance Aarah Resort and Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort.

According to MMPRC, the main focus of the trip is the exploration of the spiritual side of life with wellness and rejuvenation sessions.

The journalists will also get to enjoy the local way of life during the Eid al-Adha festivities underway in Maldives, and additional activities such as sailing on dhoni, seeing the underwater beauty, dolphin cruise and water sports.

They are scheduled to conclude their visit and return back to the US on Sunday, August 18; upon which their experiences will be featured as articles and photographs on their respective publications.

The US is one of the top 10 source markets for Maldivian tourism industry. It is ranked as the eight biggest source with a 3.2 percent market share.

Total 27,684 US tourists visited Maldives in the first two quarters of 2019; a significant 34.5 percent increase compared to the arrival rate in the first two quarters of 2018.

MMPRC reports it hopes to reach wider audiences in international markets to promote Maldives through its series of FAM trips.
