The Maldives has become a recipient of two accolades at the World Travel Awards (WTA) Indian Ocean category, confirms the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/ Visit Maldives).

MMPRC Managing Director and CEO Ibrahim Shiuree received the awards during the World Travel Awards Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony held at the Johari Rotana Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on June 28, 2025.

At this year's WTA Indian Ocean Category, Maldives defended its title of World's Leading Destination for the sixth consecutive year.

Maldives secured:

  • Indian Ocean's Leading Destination 2025 (also won in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024)
  • Indian Ocean's Leading Green Destination 2025 (also won in 2024)

While speaking about receiving the accolades, Shiuree said that the awards were significant for the Maldivian tourism industry.

"They highlight the Maldives' position as an unmatched tourist destination, underscore our nation's dedication to providing unforgettable experiences for visitors globally, and affirm MMPRC's ongoing efforts to promote and develop our tourism sector," he added.
