Frequency of bus transport increased to accommodate holiday travelers

Public bus transport services provided by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been increased in frequency to accommodate the influx of travelers ahead of the Eid al-Adha holiday.

Transport Ministry announced its decision to increase the frequency of public bus routes in a statement last Wednesday evening.

MPL bus services between Male’ City and Hulhule’, which was previously provided at one-hour intervals, is now available at 30-minute intervals. The buses will also stop at all three bus stops in Male’ City and accept passengers, and load and unload luggage.

MTCC announced this Thursday the company too, plans on increasing the frequency of its bus services within Hulhumale’ and between Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’ over the holiday.

The company reports its bus services between Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’ will be available at more frequent intervals during peak hours, and that it will allow luggage onboard its neighborhood buses.

Civil servants and school students will enjoy an uninterrupted nine days for Eid al-Adha this year, given the weekend which falls ahead of, and after the Eid.

A large number of Male’ City residents are expected to leave the city for the holiday. Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has advised air travel passengers to do early check-ins.
