Migrant brought in under influence of drugs ‘flees’ from hospital

A migrant who was brought into the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital after he was found collapsed at the athletics track in Hithadhoo has fled the hospital before completion of his treatment.

A video of the man lying collapsed on a bench at the track area has gone viral over social media platforms.

The video shows the man lying motionless while female migrant sitting next to him in tears rubs her hands on him to bring him back to consciousness.

The incident took place last Saturday evening.

A spokesperson from Hithadhoo Regional Hospital reports an Indian national was brought into the hospital unconscious at 6:30 pm.

There were no outward signs of injury, and the doctor who examined him ruled he had been under the influence of drugs.

The spokesperson reports the man regained consciousness while under treatment at the hospital and had recovered by this Sunday morning.

The man, however, walked out of the hospital before he was discharged.

Maldives Police Service was not immediately available for comment regarding the case, but the spokesperson from Hithadhoo Regional Hospital confirms police officers arrived at the hospital after the man walked out.
