Local Government Authority of Maldives has announced the decision to adopt the new regulations for civil servants awarding six months of paid maternity leave and one month of paid paternity leave.
President of LGA and Home Minister, Sheikh Imran Abdullah announced via Twitter that the LGA made the decision to adopt the new regulation regarding policy for maternity and paternity leave last Tuesday.

He added that he is was delighted with the decision.
The implementation of the new regulation was announced by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during the event at K. Maafushi last Thursday to celebrate International Women's Day.
Awarding six months of paid maternity leave and one month of paid paternity leave was one of Solih's electoral pledges.
Many State companies and divisions, in addition to LGA, have made the decision to adopt the regulation.
Civil servants were previously awarded only three months of paid maternity leave and only three days of paid paternity leave.
