Zulfa dismissed as LGA CEO; appointed State Minister at Foreign Ministry

Dr. Mariyam Zulfa, who had been serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Local Government Authority (LGA), has been dismissed from the post and appointed State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The shuffle was confirmed to Sun by the President’s Office without disclosing the reason behind Zulfa’s dismissal.

Zulfa has served as the Tourism Minister in former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed’s cabinet. She relocated overseas after the fall of Nasheed’s administration in 2012. She moved back to the Maldives this year.

Prior to her appointment as LGA’s CEO, she was serving as a Board Member of the National Parks Advisory Council, Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, Melbourne, Australia.

Zulfa completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Curtin Business School at Curtin University in Australia. She completed a Master of Public and International Law (LLM) from the University of Melbourne in Australia, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Waikato University in New Zealand.
