National development is impossible unless social relations and interactions are strengthened, says Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the costliest football tournament in Maldives – the Siyam-Mauroof Soccer Cup 2018 – last Wednesday, Siyam said every Maldivian citizen wanted development.

“But we cannot develop unless we are in good health. And we cannot develop the nation unless we strengthen our social relations. We need to live as brothers and sisters. We need to help each other. We need to support each other,” said Siyam, the Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Siyam Group.

The fifth Siyam-Mauroof Soccer Cup, held at N. Kendhikulhudhoo from November 24 to December 26, was won by the Kendhikulhudhoo Football Club.

The cash prizes for the Siyam-Mauroof Soccer Cup 2018 alone amounted to MVR 740,000.

The champions Kendhikulhudhoo Football Club won MVR 600,000 and runner-up N. Holhudhoo Football Club won 100,000.

The annual football tournament is an initiative by Siyam and Kendhikulhudhoo MP Ali Mauroof, open to all islands of N. Atoll.
