The new US ambassador to Maldives, Alaina Teplitz has presented her credentials to Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Ambassador Teplitz presented her credentials in a function held at the President’s Office this Sunday morning.
President’s Office reports that during the meeting held after the function, Teplitz and Solih discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between Maldives and the US. And assured each other of their continuous support and cooperation to each other in future endeavors.
The function marks the first time for Solih to be presented with credentials by a foreign diplomat since his inauguration last Saturday evening.
The function and the meeting afterwards was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid.
Teplitz, in addition to being the Ambassador to Maldives, is also the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
She presented Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena with her credentials on November 1.
She previously served as US Ambassador to Nepal before her new assignment to Maldives and Sri Lanka.
US President Donald Trump submitted Teplitz’s name to the Senate in May. And her name was approved by the Senate in September.
The US Ambassador to Maldives during former President Barack Obama’s administration was Atul Keshap – who was appointed to the position in August, 2015.
